Here I stand, upright and still
The sun bears down upon me
The stillness is sublimely unnatural
No wonder He said, “Be still and know I am God.”
The wind blows. The Earth rotates on its axis.
The Coriolis force ripples across the ocean.
Life is motion. Absolute zero is stillness.
Infinite time rolls on (and over finite beings)
Yet in the moment I find stillness
I, one human being, one of many
Stop for a minute and marvel
At the utter motion of being
And stand still.
