Poem: Spiriting Away Feeling Nary a Step

In the night I emerged from

a smoky haze of poetry;

ba da ba da bum bum boom

walking with a spring in my step

and a burning in my belly.

da dum da da dum ba

as I spirited my way across the street

feeling nary a step, I laughed

and grinned at strangers.

[eyes closed, deep breath, music stops]

it was the strangest thing

like some extension of me

found expression.

[humming] mmmmm mmmmm

now if only you were here

maybe I’d say exactly what I mean

and you’d see my plainly

without the carefully crafted

artifices of self- presentation

ooohhhhh yeahhhh.
